Kodansha Launches Shōnen Magazine Edge with New Work by Shaman King's Takei (Updated)

New magazine launches on September 17 with manga adaptation of Sound Horizon album

Kodansha announced via a new website on Thursday that manga creator Hiroyuki Takei (Shaman King, Ultimo) will launch the Nekogahara manga in Kodansha's new manga magazine Shōnen Magazine Edge. The manga will launch when the magazine launches on September 17, and it will mark the first time Takei is publishing a manga in a Kodansha magazine.

Nekogahara will adorn the first issue's cover, and it will also feature an opening color page. Shōnen Magazine Edge describes the manga as follows: "A cat abandoned by the world, Nora Chiyo. Slice through the human world."

Kodansha had revealed the new magazine in June. The magazine will ship on the 17th of every month, and Kodansha will also publish a digital version simultaneously with the print version.

Shōnen Magazine Edge's name comes from the fact that Kodansha is aiming to publish works "at the extreme exterior of the 'Magazine' group." Fumio Osano, Kodansha's editor for Naoko Takeuchi's Sailor Moon and Codename: Sailor V manga, will serve as editor-in-chief of Shōnen Magazine Edge.

Kodansha will reveal new works that it will publish in the new magazine every Thursday evening.

The magazine will also publish a manga version of Sound Horizon's Märchen story album. Yasuyuki Torikai will draw the Shinyaku Märchen manga (see gallery below).

Update: Shōnen Magazine Edge posted more rough draft art from Takei's upcoming series on its Twitter feed on Friday. Thanks to Liam for the tip.
