Boom Boom Satellites' Vocalist Michiyuki Kawashima Suffers 4th Brain Tumor Relapse

Band to halt performance activities after November concert series

Boom Boom Satellites announced on its official website in both English and Japanese on Friday that vocalist/guitarist Michiyuki Kawashima (pictured top in image right) has suffered his fourth brain tumor relapse. The duo has decided that the band will halt its performance activities after its "'SHINE LIKE A BILLION SUNS' for all the night crawlers" concerts in November so Kawashima can undergo medical treatment. Kawashima was diagnosed with the new tumor after a medical examination in August.

Kawashima commented on the announcement:

At a recent checkup it was discovered that I am having my fourth brain tumor relapse. I have battled this disease and won many times up to now, and have even been able to keep up with my work as an artist. However, my repeated relapses have limited my treatment options, and I feel that I am no longer confident in my ability to perform to the satisfaction of my fans. Talking it over with Nakano and the staff, it has been decided that upon November's one-band performance in Tokyo and Osaka, I will take a break from performance activities to devote myself to treatment. I have no doubt about the success of the treatment, and I will absolutely walk up onto that stage again when this is all over! Look forward to my return!
Thank you to all of the fans who have come to see BOOM BOOM SATELLITES perform at its many different locations over the years. It's because of you all that I've been able to persevere and make it to where I am today. Thank you so very, very much.
Please be sure to enjoy our November's one-band performance! We will face this new challenge with all its might!

Programmer and bassist Masayuki Nakano (pictured bottom in image above right) also commented on the announcement:

For all of the many fans and others who have supported us along the way, I have nothing but gratitude. It was about the same time as our band debuted that Kawashima began his fight with brain tumor, overcoming many personal ordeals while performing. Through him I have learned much, and experienced much joy as well as the occasional tears. It has been a very colorful time, and life with Kawashima. His brain tumor relapse is unfortunate, but I believe that his treatment will be a success, and we will be able to stand on stage together again.
I promise you'll have a great time at our November's one-band performance! New songs are in the works, too. It is our great mission to bring these new songs, which Kawashima and I liken to our own children, to our loyal fans. We ask for your support in our continued efforts.
BOOM BOOM SATELLITES's performance activities will be temporarily suspended, but please continue to support the band and Michiyuki Kawashima!

The duo will perform at Osaka's Big Cat on November 5, and in Tokyo at Shin Kiba Studio Coast on November 7.

Boom Boom Satellites previously took a hiatus from concerts from January to March 2013 so that Kawashima could undergo brain tumor treatment.

Boom Boom Satellites first debuted in Europe in 1997, and they released their ninth album Shine Like A Billion Suns in February. The group has created music for anime projects such as Appleseed and Vexille - 2077 Isolation of Japan. They also performed theme songs for Xam'd: Lost Memories and Mobile Suit Gundam UC and contributed to Guilty Crown. Most recently they performed the opening theme song for Ninja Slayer From Animation.
