Neko no Dayan Short Anime Gets 2nd Season in Fall

Neko no Dayan, Nihon e Iku series to take place in Japan

The official website of the Neko no Dayan television anime short series announced last Thursday that a second season of the show titled Neko no Dayan, Nihon e Iku (Dayan the Cat Heads to Japan) will premiere in Japan in fall. The show will air every Saturday at 7:00 a.m. - 7:05 a.m. on Tokyo MX, and every Sunday at 9:00 a.m. to 9:10 a.m. on the Channel NECO movie streaming site.

The official website of the Wachifield franchise also unveiled a visual for the show, showing the characters dressed in the uniform of the Shinsengumi from Japan's Bakumatsu period.

The original Neko no Daya short anime series aired 52 episodes, and premiered in April 2014. Sumi Shimamoto (Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro's Clarisse, Nausicaä's titular character) played Dayan in the series.

In Japan, Ikeda's fictional world of Wachifield has inspired more than 30 picture books and novels, an illustration collection, a drama CD, museums, stores, and a theme park. Dayan is the central character in Ikeda's stories, and he is a whimsical, selfish, but good-natured and kind cat whose curiosity often leads him on fantastical journeys.

Dark Horse Comics released the first four volumes of Ikeda's stories in The Dayan Collection in 2008.

Ikeda's franchise celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2013.
