Linebarrels of Iron Duo Collaborate on Getter Robo Devolution Manga

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Prequel chapter published on Saturday; main story starting in December

The October issue of Akita Shoten's Bessatsu Shōnen Champion magazine revealed and published a prologue chapter of Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi's new Getter Robo Devolution ~Uchū Saigo no 3-bun Kan~ (Getter Robo Devolution ~The Last 3 Minutes of the Universe~) manga on Saturday. The magazine also notes that the main story will start in the magazine's January issue, which Akita Shoten will publish on December 12.

The magazine teases:

An announcement that will confuse, shake, and shock the manga world! A new manga series featuring a miracle collaboration and world-class excellence!

The manga is based on Ken Ishikawa and Gō Nagai's Getter Robo robot anime and manga franchise.

Shimizu and Shimoguchi worked together on the Linebarrels of Iron manga, which they launched in 2005 in Akita Shoten's Champion RED magazine, and ended in April 2014, in the magazine's June issue. Akita Shoten published the manga's 25th and final compiled book volume last August. The manga inspired a 24-episode anime in 2008 that FUNimation Entertainment released in North America in 2010.

The duo is also serializing the Ultraman manga in Shogakukan's Heroes magazine. Shogakukan shipped the manga's sixth compiled volume on July 4, and the series has more than 1.7 million copies in print. Viz Media is releasing the Ultraman manga in North America.

Shimizu and Shimoguchi also announced a manga collaboration based on Shōtarō Ishinomori's 1970s tokusatsu TV series Robot Detective in January 2014. The manga was originally slated to debut in fall of that year in the Shōnen Champion family of mgazines.
