Sugisaku's manga will also get live-action film starring Junsuke Kazama

A series of five-minute anime shorts based on Sugisaku's essay manga Neko Nanka Yonde mo Konai (Cats Don't Come When You Call Them) began running on the BS Asahi Television channel on Saturday morning at 12:54 a.m. It is also airing on TV Osaka on Friday mornings at 1:00 a.m.

The anime project held an audition in Nihon Kogakuin Creator's College and cast some of its students in the anime. Yūki Iwakuro plays the main character, a pro boxer who aims to be a manga creator after sustaining an injury. Masahiro Kido plays the manga creator's older brother, who supports him. Risa Koyama plays Kuro, the timid cat, while Rio Kamigawa plays Kuro's younger sister, Chin.

Sugisaku and Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha, Ltd. published the manga in 2012, and later published several sequels. The manga will also get a live-action film adaptation starring Junsuke Kazama next January.
