Konami Develops Taisen! Bomberman Smartphone Game for Winter 2015

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Game will allow 4-player multiplayer, will focus on competitive play

Konami announced on Sunday that it is developing a new Bomberman game titled Taisen! Bomberman for iOS and Android devices. The game commemorates the first Bomberman game's release on the Nintendo Famicom (NES) in 1985. The game will feature multiplayer gameplay with up to four players, and will focus on competitive play. The game is slated for release this winter.

The game will have a matchmaking feature to match players with other players of their skill level. It will also include a mode to play only with your friends by entering their game key. It will have cross-platform multiplayer, so players who own the iOS and Android versions can play together.

The game will have a solo-play mode featuring 100 levels that can also serve as training stages for multiplayer. The game will have solo-play leaderboards that will feature the players with the highest score and the fastest time to clear a stage.

Players will also be able to livestream their games on their Nico Nico Livestream channel, even without a premium account.

Hudson Soft developed and released the original Bomber Man (Bakudan Otoko) game in 1983 on multiple platforms, and released the game on the Nintendo Famicom (NES) in 1985 with the title Bomberman. The game has spawned multiple sequels and spinoffs on many different console platforms featuring the same basic gameplay. In the games, players control Bomberman. The goal is usually to eliminate all enemies in a maze-like level as fast as possible. Players use timed bombs, which aside from eliminating enemies, can also be used to demolish walls to create new paths. Power-ups can change the bomb's strength, detonation time, and add other properties.
