Mayo Chiki!'s Asano Launches New Light Novel Series in December

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Series centers around former top student who turns into gyaru

Kodansha opened a website on Saturday revealing a new light novel by Mayo Chiki! creator Hajime Asano titled Gakunen Top no Ojō-sama ga 1-nen de Hensachi wo 40 Sagete Gal ni Natta Hanashi (The Story of the Grade's Top Student Rich Girl Who Became a Gyaru After Her Standard Score Fell Below 40 in a Year). Kohada Shimesaba (Dragonar Academy) will illustrate the light novel series.

The website describes the story:

While wearing the mask of an honors student, I, Haruto Mochizuki, blend right into the class. One day, I head home after finishing up my club activities with my clubmate Sayo Izayoi, when I meet a gyaru (gal) who steals a kiss from me. She was my childhood friend Futaba Kagurazaka, a daughter from a rich and famous family. In the time we hadn't seen each other, she had turned from a feminine person who boasted good grades, to a flashy gyaru! Together with her sadistic twin sister Kuroha, they drag me to live together with them. But aside from Sayo seeing Futaba and Kuroha tempt me, more daily troubles arise from that one hot kiss.

Kodansha will publish the first volume of the light novel series on December 2.

Asano launched the Mayo Chiki! light novel series in 2009. Media Factory published the 12th and final volume of the novel series in July 2012. The novel series received a manga adaptation by Niito, published in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Alive magazine from 2010 to 2013. A 13-episode television anime adaptation of the series aired in Japan in 2011. Sentai Filmworks released the anime on DVD in North America in 2012, and offered the series with a dub on DVD and Blu-ray in August 2014.

Asano most recently launched the Sasuga Desu Yūsha-sama! light novel series. Kodansha published the first volume of the series on October 30.
