Funimation Lists Kingdom Season 2, C3 Anime Home Video Releases

posted on by Karen Ressler
Sequel series, 2011 anime slated for March

FUNimation Entertainment is listing home video releases for the Kingdom anime's second season and the (C Cube/Cube x Cursed x Curious) anime. Funimation has not responded to ANN's request for confirmation as of press time.

The second season of Kingdom is slated to ship on a DVD with all 39 episodes on March 8. Like the first season DVD release, which is slated for January 26, the second season will have an English dub.

The first anime season based on Yasuhisa Hara's historical manga premiered in June 2012 and Funimation streamed the series as it aired in Japan.

The second anime season ran for 39 episodes from 2013-2014. Funimation has not streamed the series.

Funimation describes the story:

When low-born servant boys, Piao and Xin, set out to become the world's greatest war generals they quickly find themselves caught up in a violent struggle between two noblemen plotting to overthrow the King.

After Piao is killed protecting the rightful ruler of the Kingdom of Qin, Xin sets out on a campaign for revenge that leads him straight into the fire of war. Now, with a target on his back and an army of enemies standing in his way, it will be up to a boy with no name and a Young King without a throne to return order to their war-torn country in this historical action-drama based on the Tezuka Award-winning manga.

All 12 episodes and the OVA for the 2011 anime will ship on a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on March 15. The audio will be Japanese only.

In the original light novels and the anime that they inspired, the high school boy Haruaki Yachi receives a mysterious black cube from his father. Later in his kitchen, Haruaki discovers "Fear" — the female human personification of the cube and an instrument of torture. Funimation and Niconico streamed the television episodes in North America as they aired in Japan (after an initial delay).
