World of Warships' Arpeggio of Blue Steel Collaboration Teased in Video

New warship skins, Yokosuka port previewed

Game developer Wargaming is previewing the collaboration between its World of Warships naval warfare simulator and the Arpeggio of Blue Steel anime franchise on Thursday. The new collaboration mode will feature special missions and different warship skins themed on ships that appear in the anime, as well as the Yokosuka port location from the anime. The vessels will feature the Mental Models avatars from the anime, complete with Iona's voice.

The Arpeggio of Blue Steel anime franchise is based on Ark Performance's manga of the same name. In the story, humanity lost much of its developed land due to global warming in the first half of the 21st century. Then, a "Fleet of Fog" loaded with super weapons suddenly appears all over the world. Without the ability to withstand this fleet, humanity was defeated and could no longer travel the seas. 17 years after the devastating naval war, Gunzō Chihaya and his crewmates somehow commandeer a "Fleet of Fog" submarine named I-401. Together with Iona (I-401's "mental model" or incarnation in humanoid form), they take on the "Fleet of Fog."

Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan in 2013. The anime inspired a compilation film titled Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova DC, which premiered in Japan on January 31. The show also inspired a sequel anime film titled Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova Cadenza, which premiered in Japan on October 3.

World of Warships simulates combat between surface warships from the early 20th century. The game features ships from six national navies. Wargaming released the game for the PC on September 17.

Wargaming already collaborated with another anime, Girls und Panzer, for its World of Tanks game.
