Asterisk War PS Vita Game's Trailer Previews Choice of Protagonist

Action RPG slated for January 28 in Japan

Bandai Namco Entertainment began streaming a fourth promotional video on Monday for Gakusen Toshi Asterisk: Hōka Kenran, its upcoming PlayStation Vita game based on author Yuu Miyazaki and illustrator okiura's The Asterisk War: The Academy City on the Water (Gakusen Toshi Asterisk) light novel series. The video introduces the characters, including the player's choice of protagonist: either the original story's protagonist, Ayato Amagiri, or an original character designed by the player. The game will have a different ending depending on this choice. The trailer also features the game's theme song "Brilliant Star" by Shiena Nishizawa, who also performed the anime's opening theme.

Bandai Namco Entertainment announced in November that it will localize the game in Asia. The company told ANN that it is still gauging market demand before it decides the target language for localization.

The game will have an original story where players can choose a partner to team up with in battle, and also to date. The ending will change depending on the player's choice.

The game will ship on January 28 in both a regular and a limited edition. The limited edition will retail for 9,900 yen (about US$80) and will include an art box, soundtrack CD, a drama CD featuring the heroines' daily lives, an illustrated mini clear poster, and a Blu-ray Disc with a cast talk and "short movie." Players who pre-order the game will receive a download code for a "Y-Shirt" costume.

Aniplex of America licensed the television anime adaptation that premiered in October. The series streamed on Daisuki, Crunchyroll, and Funimation.

Funimation describes the story:

Less than a century ago a meteor collided with the planet's surface and the resulting disaster caused the next generation of humanity to develop a wide variety of amazing abilities. In the center of the meteor's crater lies Rikka, a system of six academies known as the Asterisk. Ayato Amagiri enters the Asterisk as a transfer student hoping to compete in a special battle event known as the Festa. However, he quickly finds himself on the bad side of one of the strongest fighters around—the beautiful but fiery Julis-Alexa von Riessfeld. To stand against her he'll have to rely on his own sword-wielding ability, but when the tables turn, will they be able to team up to take down the competition?
