News Girls & Panzer Film Tops 800 Million Yen

The Girls und Panzer film has sold 548,583 tickets for over 800 million yen (about US$7 million) as of Wednesday, January 6. It sold 31,451 tickets on January 2 and 3 during the extended New Year's holiday period — 192% more tickets than in the previous weekend. It earned 47,671,400 yen (US$406,000) this past weekend.
The film will expand into more theaters on Saturday. It opened on November 21 in 32 theaters, and it will eventually play in 47 prefectures. It sold a total of 364,781 tickets for 539,435,450 yen (US$4,466,500) as of December 13, 23 days after it opened.
Staring with the film's eighth weekend this Saturday, January 9, moviegoers will receive one of two randomly distributed New Year's postcards drawn by character designer Isao Sugimoto.
