Neko Ramen Creator's Cat History Manga Neko Neko Nihonshi Gets TV Anime
posted on by Egan Loo
A television anime adaptation of Kenji Sonishi's historical manga Neko Neko Nihonshi (Feline Japanese History) has been green-lit for NHK's E-Tele channel. The anime will premiere on April 6 and run during the "Ten-Tele Anime" timeslot within the Tensai TV-kun variety program every Wednesday from 6:45 p.m. to 6:54 p.m.
The four-panel manga imagines if Japanese historical figures such as Queen himiko, the warlord Oda Nobunaga, and samurai Sakamoto Ryōma were cats. Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha's manga website Comic Ruelle serializes the manga, and Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha will publish the second compiled book volume on February 9.
Tomohiro Kawamura is directing the anime at the studio Joker Films. Ryō Takada is supervising the series scripts and co-writing them with Kyō Shimizu.
Sonishi's Neko Ramen manga also inspired a Flash television anime, which Vuze released online with English subtitles under the title Neko Rahmen. The manga later inspired a live-action film titled Neko Rahmen Taishō (General Neko Rahmen).
