Valkyria Chronicles Remastered RPG Heads West This Spring

PS4 remaster of PS3 game offered on physical disc and via PSN digital download

Sega announced on Monday that it will release Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, the revamped PlayStation 4 version of the PlayStation 3 tactical role-playing game, in North America and Europe this spring. It will be available as a physical disc release and as a digital download on the PlayStation Network.

The game will retail for US$29.99/CA$44.99. Pre-orders and a limited number of launch edition retail copies will come in a collectible metal Squad 7 Armored Case.

The remastered edition features:

HD "CANVAS" Graphics Engine - The stunning, painterly graphics return, but this time in 1080p/60fps high definition quality! Battles and cutscenes are conveyed like a vibrant tapestry in motion.

"Blitz" tactical battle system - Part overhead turn-based strategy, part RPG, and part real-time 3rd person shooter, the" Blitz" system is an innovative mechanic that makes battles simultaneously strategic and action-packed. Players will command and control their soldiers and tanks as they take on the Empire in 30 different battlefronts.

Memorable storyline - Set against the backdrop of a world war, Gunther, Alicia, Largo and the rest of the fierce members of Squad 7 fight for personal reasons in the name of freedom, and the hope against all odds of liberating Gallia from Empire control, all in the face of the terrible realities of war.

DLC Included - Besides the core game, Valkyria Chronicles Remastered includes all previously released DLC: Hard EX Mode, Edy's Mission, Selvaria's Mission, and Challenge of the Edy Detachment.

Sega Europe had teased a Western release for the game last week.

The original Valkyria Chronicles games are set in a fictional reimagining of 1930s Europe. In the first game, the Empire invades the neutral nation of Gallia to claim its resources. The game focuses on the soldiers of Squad 7, a platoon in the Gallian conscript Militia, who fight back the invading Empire. The second and third games in the series focus on different Gallian military units.

Sega released the first Valkyria Chronicles game on the PlayStation 3 in Japan, Europe, and North America in 2008, and released Valkyria Chronicles II on the PlayStation Portable in 2010. Sega also released Valkyria Chronicles III on the PSP in 2011, but did not release it in the WEST. Sega released Valkyria Chronicles on the PC in November 2014.

The first game in the series inspired a 26-episode television anime series by A-1 Pictures in 2009. The third game inspired a 2-episode original video animation in 2011.

First printings of the game in Japan will come with a product code for a "Battle demo version 1.0" of the upcoming game Valkyria: Azure Revolution (Aoki Kakumei no Valkyria), which is slated for winter 2016.
