Metal Gear creator, Pacific Rim director to discuss creative influences

The official website for the 2016 D.I.C.E. Summit event announced on Wednesday that game developer and Metal Gear Solid series creator Hideo Kojima will present the Thursday afternoon Keynote Address with film director and screenwriter Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy, Mimic, Blade II, Pacific Rim). Producer Geoff Keighley will moderate their conversation about their careers and creative influences.

The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences will induct Kojima into the Hall of Fame at the D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Awards, and del Toro will present the award. The D.I.C.E. Summit will take place from February 16-18 in Las Vegas.

Kojima and del Toro were originally planning to work together on Konami's Silent Hills title. They released the "P.T." playable teaser before Konami cancelled the project. Kojima told IGN that he "definitely want[s] to create something with [director Guillermo del Toro]," but added, "I have no idea what I'll be working on with him, if it'll be a game, a movie, anime." The film director had previously told IGN, "I love working with Kojima-san. […] We are still in touch. We are still friends and working into doing something together, but that's not going to be [Silent Hills]."

Kojima announced last month that he had left Konami and launched Kojima Productions, a new game studio. Kojima is working with Sony to launch a new game title that will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 platform.

At the Video Game Awards ceremony last month, producer Geoff Keighley stated that Kojima did not attend the ceremony because a lawyer representing Konami had informed Kojima that he "would not be allowed" to attend. Kojima's Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain game won the award for Best Score/Soundtrack and Best Action/Adventure at that ceremony.
