2016 Soreike! Anpanman Film's Title, July 2 Premiere Unveiled

Film features motif from late Anpanman creator's song "Yūki no Runda"

The 28th and newest film in the Anpanman anime franchise will be titled Soreike! Anpanman Omocha no Hoshi no Nanda to Runda (Let's Go! Anpanman: Nanda and Runda of the Toy Star), and it will open in Japan on July 2. The film's heroine is the high-class clockwork girl Runda who comes from the toy star.

Runda is a spoiled girl who believes it's natural for everyone to do things for themselves. She is always with the big, clumsy toy robot Nanda. One day, the "toy stick" that has the power to change things into toys drops into Anpanman's world. Runda and Nanda hastily go in search of the important item, but are struck by lightning. Nanda ends up being hurled to Anpanman and his friends, while Runda finds herself with Baikinman and his friends.

The late Anpanman creator Takashi Yanase's song "Yūki no Runda" (Brave Runda) serves as a motif for the film. The song is currently used in a musical show at Anpanman Children's Museums across Japan. The names of the new film's characters Nanda and Runda come from a key phrase in the song.

The film aims to promote Yanase's message of being brave and doing one's best for the sake of someone else rather than for oneself. The film will again feature sing-and-dance-along songs including "Anpanman Taisō" and "Anpanman March."

The Soreike! Anpanman television anime series began in 1988, and new Anpanman films have opened each summer since 1989. The 2014 film Soreike! Anpanman: Ringo Bōya to Minna no Negai (Let's Go! Anpanman: The Apple Boy and Everyone's Wishes) was the first film since Anpanman creator Takashi Yanase's passing.

The 27th film in the franchise, Soreike! Anpanman: Mija to Mahō no Lamp (Let's Go! Anpanman: Mija and the Magic Lamp), opened in Japan on July 4, 2015.
