Actor Kenta Suga Makes Voice Acting Debut on Shin ATASHIn'CHI Anime

posted on by Karen Ressler
Anime currently streaming on Crunchyroll

Actor Kenta Suga (live-action Always: Sunset on Third Street, Tsurikichi Sampei, Peace Maker) will make his voice acting debut in episode 24 of Shin ATASHIn'CHI. The episode, "Yuzuhiko, Yakyūbu" (Yuzuhiko, Baseball Club), will air on March 22.

Suga's character is Ōno-kun, Yuzuhiko's showy and flirty upperclassman at the baseball club.

Suga commented on Twitter that he's happy to have the role because he used to watch the anime when he was younger, and his little sister collects the manga.

The anime premiered in Japan in October and Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan.

Eiko Kera's original manga follows the everyday life of a high school girl named Mikan (voiced by Fumiko Orikasa) and her family — her homemaker mother (Kumiko Watanabe), her salaryman father (Kenichi Ogata), and her younger brother Yuzuhiko (Daisuke Sakaguchi). The manga ran in the Sunday edition of the Yomiuri Shimbun paper for 17 years and 10 months from 1994 until 2012. There are over 10 million copies of the first 17 compiled book volumes.

The manga already inspired a television anime series that aired from 2002 to 2009. There was also an ATASHIn'CHI film that premiered in 2003, along with a 40-minute 3D ATASHIn'CHI film in 2010.
