Sentai Filmworks announced on Tuesday that it has licensed the Hakuoki: Demon of the Floating Blossom: Wild Dance of Kyoto (Hakuōki Dai-isshō Kyoto Ranbu) anime film and plans to release it digitally and on home video.
Hakuōki Dai-isshō Kyoto Ranbu is the first of a two-part film project. The film opened in Japan in 2013 and the sequel, Hakuōki Dai-nishō Shikon Sōkyū, opened in 2014.
The main cast from the previous anime projects returned the film. Osamu Yamasaki directed the film, and he co-wrote the film's script with Tsunekiyo Fujisawa. Atsuko Nakajima returned to adapt Yone Kazuki's original character designs for animation, and she also served as chief animation director. Kenji Kawai took over for Kō Ōtani for the film's music. Studio DEEN again animated the film.
Sentai Filmworks has also licensed and released the original Hakuōki television anime, the Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom - Dawn of the Shinsengumi prequel series, the Hakuōki: Record of the Jade Blood sequel series, and the Hakuōki: A Memory of Snow Flowers OVA.
Hakuōki: Otogisōshi, new short anime series featuring SD characters, will premiere in April.
