Tonko House Streams Teaser For 'Moom' CG Animated Short
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Tonko House — Daisuke "Dice" Tsutsumi and Robert Kondo's studio that produced the Oscar-nominated animated short "The Dam Keeper" — began streaming a teaser video on Thursday for "Moom," the studio's CG-animated short based on Genki Kawamura's (Wolf Children, The Boy and The Beast producer) picture book of the same title.
The studio previously released three behind-the-scenes videos last month and this month featuring Tsutsumi, Kondo, and Kawamura discussing their thoughts on the making of "Moom."
The short will debut on March 5 at the Cinequest Film Festival in California.
Tsutsumi (Hayao Miyazaki's nephew-in-law) and Kondo, both former Pixar art directors, are directing "Moom." Tomohiko Ishii (Eden of the East, 009 Re:Cyborg, The Sky Crawlers) is producing the short. The full-3D CG animated short will be 13 minutes long.
Although Tsutsumi and Kondo are directing the new short, the studios Craftar and Marza Animation Planet are handling production with a Japanese staff. Craftar is a newly formed animation production studio within the advertising animation studio Steve N' Steven.
Tsutsumi served as art director for Toy Story 3 and co-founded Tonko House with Kondo in 2014. The pair produced "The Dam Keeper" animated short as part of a co-op program at Pixar after finishing production on Monsters University. Tonko House is also currently working on a film version of "The Dam Keeper."
