The first major exhibition to explore Japanese shōjo (girls') manga in the UK

Discover the world of Shōjo Manga (girls' comics in Japanese) in the UK's first major touring exhibition of the genre, from its 'golden era' to the present day.

Japan's shōjo manga culture dates back to the post-war years but only evolved into its broad-ranging and hugely-popular form of today as a result of the innovative work of a small group of artists in the 1970s. This exhibition explores the work of pioneering 1970s artists Akiko Hatsu and Keiko Takemiya, and contemporary artist Yukiko Kai, through elaborate Genga'(Dash) prints. In association with the Kyoto International Manga Museum and the Lakes International Comic Art Festival.
