Crunchyroll announced on Thursday that it will stream the Shōnen Ashibe GO! GO! Goma-chan television anime. The series will premiere worldwide outside of Asia on April 5 at 7 a.m. EDT.

The Shōnen Ashibe GO! GO! Goma-chan television anime will premiere on NHK's E-Tele channel on April 5, and will run during the "Ten-Tele Anime" timeslot within the Tensai TV-kun variety program every Tuesday from 6:45 p.m. to 6:54 p.m.

The anime is a new anime adaptation of Morishita's original Shōnen Ashibe manga. Morishita serialized the original manga in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine from 1988 to 1994. The story follows the daily life of the baby spotted seal Goma-chan and its owner, schoolboy Ashibe Ashiya.

Nobuhiro Kondō (Sgt. Frog, Nobunagun) is directing the new anime at the studio Bridge. Toshimitsu Takeuchi (Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold, Weiß Survive R) is in charge of series scripts, and Team Goma is producing.

The manga already inspired a 1991 television anime series and a second 1992-1993 television anime series. It also spawned a manga sequel named ComaGoma in Weekly Young Jump from 2000 to 2004. Futabasha has since been republishing selected chapters of the manga, and it will print a new edition this spring.

In addition, the May issue of Futabasha's Gakken Action magazine revealed on March 25 that the magazine will begin serializing a new manga series based on the telvision anime starting in the June issue, which will ship on April 25. Hiromi Morishita is writing the manga, while Junko Ogino (Yo ni mo Fushigi na Kissaten) is drawing.
