The official website of Hero Mania Seikatsu, the live-action film of Shigeyuki Fukumitsu's Seikatsu (Life) manga series, began streaming a character video for Toshida (Masataka Kubota) on Thursday.

The site previously streamed character videos for Nakatsu (Masahiro Higashide), Kusaka (Tsurutarō Kataoka), and Kaori (Nana Komatsu), as well as a trailer.

The film is slated to open in Japan on May 7.

The cast includes (from left to right):

  • Masahiro Higashide as Nakatsu, a part-time worker in a convenience store.
  • Nana Komatsu as Kaori, a woman who excels at gathering information.
  • Tsurutarō Kataoka as Kusaka, a salaryman nearing retirement by day, and the "Youth Hitter" by night.
  • Masataka Kubota as Toshida, a man who has great physical ability.

Keisuke Toyoshima is directing the film, with a script by Jun Tsugita. Toyoshima and Tsugita previously worked together on the Kaidan Shin Mimibukuro (Tales of Terror) live-action film, as well as the 2013 live-action adaptation of CLAMP's xxxHOLiC manga. Grand Funk will compose the film's music.

The band NICO TOUCHES THE WALLS will provide the theme song for the film. The song will be titled "Strato," with a single CD release on May 3.

Fukumitsu's original Seikatsu manga centers on Nakatsu, a part-time worker at a convenience store in the suburbs. He is constantly gloomy, and is unable to acknowledge himself or his everyday life. He comes up with a plan, and decides to find people who think the same way he does. Together, they act to punish evil in their town.

Fukumitsu launched the manga in Seirinkogeisha's AX alternative manga magazine in 2005, and serialized it until 2007, when Fukumitsu put the manga on an indefinite hiatus. Fukumitsu relaunched the manga in May 2009 on the official website of Kodansha's Morning magazine as a web manga.

Seirinkogeisha published one compiled book volume of the manga in 2008. Kodansha reprinted the volume with an additional 24 pages as Seikatsu (Kanzenban) (Life Complete Edition) in May 2010.
