Compile Founder Niitani Forms New Company Compile◯

Former Compile and Compile Heart founder Masamitsu Niitani established a new game production company titled Compile〇 (Compile Maru) last month. Niitani announced on Tuesday that the company has been incorporated as of Monday. The company plans to release its first game, Nyoki Nyoki, on consumer hardware, PC, and three other platforms simultaneously.
Niitani mentioned on the company blog that he considers Nyoki Nyoki to be the third generation of falling puzzle games after Tetris and Puyo Puyo. He said he had previously given Pochi and Nyaa this distinction, but began reflecting on the game's imperfections and started working on a new game six years ago.
Niitani published the falling puzzle game Puyo Puyo in 1991. Compile disbanded in 2002 and Niitani later went on to found Compile Heart (Hyperdimension Neptunia). Compile Heart acquired most of Compile's back catalog, though Sega owns Puyo Puyo. Niitani retired from the company in 2012.
