20th film in franchise has sold more than 4.71 million tickets

Detective Conan: Junkoku no Nightmare (Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare), the 20th Detective Conan (Case Closed) anime film, has earned more than 6 billion yen (about US$56 million) as of Monday, 51 days after the film opened in Japan on April 16. The film has sold more than 4,710,000 tickets.

As of May 8, the film set a new record high for the film franchise by earning approximately 5.057 billion yen (about US$47 million). The 2015 film Detective Conan: Gōka no Himawari (Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno) held the previous record, with 4.48 billion yen (about US$41.6 million) in box-office earnings.

The anime film franchise now exceeds 60 billion yen (about US$557.6 million) in total box-office earnings.

Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare sold 933,800 tickets for 1.209 billion yen (about US$11.1 million) to top the Japanese box office in its opening weekend, and earning the highest opening weekend gross in the franchise's history.

The film features members of the story's Black Organization who have previously appeared in the series: Gin, Vodka, Vermouth, Chianti, Korn, Kir, and Bourbon. The film's website also hints at the appearance of Rum, who has never been shown in the series.

Yūki Amami guest stars in the film as the "mysterious woman" whose eyes are different colors and who is a member of the Black Organization. Rock band B'z is performing the film's theme song "Sekai wa Anata no Iro ni Naru."
