Final Fantasy Type-0 Online Opens China Beta Before Launches in Japan, N. America, Europe

Square Enix announced during the AWS Summit in Tokyo in early June that its Final Fantasy Type-0 Online mobile and PC game will launch an open beta test for the game in China this month. Square Enix then plans to offer the title in Japan, North America, and Europe at an as-yet unspecified time.

Chinese developer Perfect World (War of the Immortals, Neverwinter) is developing the game for iOS and Android devices, as well as the PC. Square Enix announced the game at last year's Tokyo Game Show in September.

Final Fantasy XV/Final Fantasy Type-0 director Hajime Tabata considers the game the "rebirth" of Final Fantasy Agito mobile game. Final Fantasy Agito ended service last November.

In the free-to-play Final Fantasy Agito mobile game, players are elite Akademia cadets aiming to become an Agito by completing combat missions and deepening their friendships by interacting with NPCs. On weekdays, players enjoy a normal school life with their classmates, and on weekends players work together to battle enemy bosses. The fate of the world is reliant on the game's "decision" system where votes of players affect the world's history. The game has more than 1 million downloads.

Square Enix released Final Fantasy Type-0 for the PlayStation Portable in Japan in October 2011, and then released Final Fantasy Type-0 HD for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in North America, Japan, and Europe in March 2015. The company then released the game for PC last August.
