Shout! Factory to Release 1986 Transformers: The Movie on Blu-ray/DVD

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
30th anniversary release will have HD remaster, bonus content

North American video distributor Shout! Factory announced on Thursday that it is collaborating with Hasbro Studios to release The Transformers: The Movie (1986) on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on September 13. Shout! Factory also has "select digital rights" to the animated film. The release is the first release in a "multi-year alliance" between Shout! Factory and Hasbro Studios.

Shout! Factory describes the film:

The AUTOBOTS, led by the heroic OPTIMUS PRIME, prepare to make a daring attempt to retake their planet from the evil forces of MEGATRON and the DECEPTICONS. Unknown to both sides, a menacing force is heading their way – UNICRON. The only hope of stopping UNICRON lies within the Matrix of Leadership and the AUTOBOT who can rise up and use its power to light their darkest hour. Will the AUTOBOTS be able to save their native planet from destruction or will the DECEPTICONS reign supreme?

The release commemorates the film's 30th anniversary. It will be remastered in HD with a new transfer from the original 35mm film print. The release will include bonus content and will come with collectible packaging.

Toei Animation animated the 1986 film as a sequel to the first animated television seasons of The Transformers . The animated series is based on Hasbro's toy line, which itself imported toys from Takara's Diaclone and Microman toy lines, among others.
