Experience Plans Stranger of Sword City Game Sequel

posted on by Karen Ressler
Western release not confirmed

Game director Motoya Ataka revealed in a Q&A session on Twitter on Saturday that developer Experience Inc. is planning a sequel to its Stranger of Sword City (Tsurugi no Machi no Ihōjin) game. Ataka explained:

There are plans for Tsurugi no Machi no Ihoujin 2 but there are no further details on that at this time.

Nothing has been set in stone domestically so there is no information in regards to it becoming (SOSC2) in the West at this time.

He added that original artist Yōko Tsukamoto will again be working with Experience on the sequel.

Experience Inc. released the game on the Xbox One in North America on March 22, while NIS America released the game's PS Vita version in North America and Europe on April 26, and released the game on PC via Steam on June 6.

NIS America describes the game:

Your flight crashes after passing through a mysterious portal. As the sole survivor, you awaken to an unfamiliar land lit by stars you've never seen. This land is Escario, the city of swords. Quickly marked as the Chosen One, the Stranger of Sword City, you must defend this place, and choose your allegiances carefully as you scour this land for a way home.

This title is, at its core, a game about death and fighting against vanishing forever. You will discover new meaning in the choices you make to survive against all odds. You will define yourself by the lives of those you leave behind, by the people you align yourself with, and the experiences you have on each new venture into the dark labyrinths that threaten to trap you.

Experience Inc. developed Stranger of Sword City, and released it in Japan on the Xbox 360 in June 2014, and on the PC in August 2014, both with the subtitle Shiro no Ōkyū (White Palace). Experience Inc. then released the game for the PlayStation Vita in January 2015 with the subtitle Kuro no Kyūden (Black Palace). Experience Inc. released a new version of the game with a new art style on the Xbox One in Japan on March 24, and is planning to release an updated version of the game, titled Shinshaku Tsurugi no Machi no Ihōjin - Kuro no Kyūden (New Interpretation Stranger of Sword City - Black Palace), for PS Vita on July 21 in Japan.

In the game, players choose from human, elf, dwarf, ney, and migmy races; pick a character class; and navigate through dungeons to gain treasure while avoiding death from traps.
