Square Enix producer Shūichi Kobayashi revealed during an interview with game news website Siliconera that Square Enix currently has no plans to release the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution in the West.

Kobayashi said, "Yamagishi-san he was the producer that created the PSP remake and released the PS4 and Vita version in Japan. After he released the remake he hasn't really done anything for the West. At this moment, there are no plans to release that title in the West." Kobayashi added that he would "love to release it somehow," but that those were only his thoughts and currently Square Enix has no plans right now to bring the port to the West.

Star Ocean: Second Evolution originally debuted as an updated PlayStation Portable port of the second game in the series, Star Ocean: The Second Story. Square Enix released the game in Japan in 2008, and in the West in 2009. The game contains new story scenes, retouched cutscenes, and a re-recorded soundtrack. Square Enix released Star Ocean: Second Evolution on the PS4 and PS Vita in Japan on October 28, and then released a PS3 version on December 24.

Kobayashi is the producer on tri-Ace and Square Enix's Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness, the latest installment in the Star Ocean role-playing game series. Square Enix released the game for the PS4 in Japan on March 31, and for the PS3 on April 28. The game shipped for the PS4 in North America on June 28, and in Europe on July 1.

This year's Anime Expo recently hosted Kobayashi, alongside other Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness staff including Akira Yasuda and Hiroshi Ogawa.
