Shogakukan Asia Publishes 1st Original Manga About Lee Kuan Yew

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
The LKY Story manga slated for October 25 in 11 territories

Shogakukan Asia revealed on Saturday that it is publishing its first original manga, titled The LKY Story, on October 25. Yoshio Nabeta is writing the manga while Yoshihide Fujiwara is drawing.

Shogakukan Asia describes the story:

The LKY Story – Lee Kuan Yew: The Man Who Shaped a Nation is a tribute to Singapore's late founding father and Minister Mentor, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew.

This milestone manga production is a collaborative effort between Shogakukan Asia and Japan's manga creators in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Singapore-Japan diplomatic relations (SJ50). The biographic manga comic presents Mr. Lee's inspirational life, in an accessible and truly enjoyable medium with surprising results. The manga publication traces the historic events of Singapore's transformative period that shaped Singapore into the country it is today.

Shogakukan Asia is hosting a preview of the first five pages of the manga.

Besides Singapore, Shogakukan Asia will distribute the manga in Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. A Japanese-language edition of the book is slated for November.

The LKY Story is the second collaboration between writer Nabeta and artist Fujiwara. The pair first collaborated on the Conde koma manga, which ran in Shogakukan's Young Sunday magazine from 1997 to 2000.
