KOEI Tecmo America and KOEI Tecmo Europe announced on Thursday that they will release Dynasty Warriors: Godseekers (Shin Sangoku Musou: Eiketsuden), the first strategy role-playing game inspired by KOEI Tecmo Games' Dynasty Warriors action game franchise, for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The game will only be available digitally, and will launch on January 31 in North America and February 1 in Europe.
KOEI Tecmo America streamed an announcement trailer and two gameplay trailers showing the strategy RPG elements:
KOEI Tecmo describes the game:
Dynasty Warriors: Godseekers unfolds during the chaotic end days of the Han dynasty, when ancient China was overwhelmed by uprisings and internal strife within its imperial court. The story follows renowned warrior Zhao Yun and his close friend Lei Bin, who unwittingly liberate a young girl, Lixia, from a mystical prison. The two friends and the mysterious Lixia then find themselves entangled in a pivotal struggle for the salvation of the world, wherein they must navigate the maelstrom that is Three Kingdoms era China, meet countless great warriors and take part in historic battles. In their efforts to unravel the mystery behind Lixia's imprisonment, Zhao Yun and Lei Bin uncover a hidden, terrible fate, forcing them to make difficult decisions in a battle that will echo throughout history.
This roster is a subset of larger character roster that have appeared in the Dynasty Warriors game franchise over the years. For example, Zhang Chunhua, Xing Cai, Yue Ying, Zhu Rong, and Meng Huo are not in the strategy RPG's roster. The staff explained that they tried to put in as many characters as they could, and added that even characters in the strategy RPG's roster will not necessarily appear in the story. However, they can be recruited through side missions and then brought along to fight in story mode.
Dynasty Warriors: Eiketsuden (Dynasty Warriors: Legend of Great Heroes) launched in Japan in August for PlayStation 3, PS4, and PS Vita. No Western release for PS3 has been announced.
