Hikaru Nakamura's manga about Buddha, Jesus living in Tokyo inspired anime film in 2013

The January 2017 issue of Kodansha's Morning two magazine is teasing a live-action adaptation for Hikaru Nakamura's Saint Young Men (Saint Oni-san) manga on Tuesday. The issue announces a live-action drama adaptation, but then features an image of one of the manga's characters asking if the announcement is true or not. Kodansha states that it will reveal more details in the next issue, which will also publish the 100th chapter of the manga. The issue additionally states that more details are available on the st023.com website, which is not yet live.

Nakamura launched the manga in Morning two in 2006, and Kodansha shipped the manga's 13th compiled volume (pictured at right) on October 21. The manga imagines if Buddha and Jesus shared a low-rent Tokyo apartment.

The manga inspired an anime film that premiered in Japan in May 2013. The manga's eighth and ninth volumes both bundled original anime DVDs when they shipped in December 2012 and July 2013, respectively.

The manga won the Short Story award at the 13th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2009, and was also nominated for a Manga Taisho award in the same year.
