IT Gijinka Keikaku Anime Turns Tech Jargon Into Pretty Girls

IT Gijinka Keikaku (IT Anthropomorphization Project), a project that turns information technology terms into pretty girl characters, is inspiring a "Gijinka de Manabo!" (Learn via Anthropomorphization!) anime with popular voice actresses.

The anime stars the following voice cast members:

  • Ai Kakuma as UDP (User Datagram Protocol)
  • Satomi Arai as IP (Internet Protocol)
  • Ayane Sakura as Ether (Ethernet, fourth from the right in the image below)

The anime illustrates how the three protocols/standards handle a request (an online video purchase) from the user by handing off packets of data between them.

Tetsuaki Watanabe (Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, Attack on Titan technical director) directed and storyboarded the anime.

The original project was the brainchild of Chūō University associate professor Yūshi Okajima and manga creator 108-gō. Their November 2015 crowdfunding project met its 300,000-yen (about US$3,000) goal in only 11 hours, and eventually raised 1,342,000 yen (US$11,700).

The project already inspired study guides such as Gijinka de Manabo! Network no Shikumi (Learn via Anthropomorphization! Network Systems) and Gijinka de Manabo! IT Infra no Shikumi (Learn via Anthropomorphization! IT Infrastructure Systems). It also spawned a comic called Gijinka de Manabo! Omakase! Systers (Learn via Anthropomorphization! Leave It to Us! Systers) in Kadokawa's Nyantype magazine.
