Animax Asia to Air Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Anime in January

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Series based on light novel series premiered in Japan in April

Southeast Asian channel Animax Asia began streaming a teaser for the Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- (Re: Life in a different world from zero or Re: Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu) television anime on Thursday. The teaser reveals that the channel will begin airing the anime on January 13.

The anime premiered in Japan on April 3.

The anime is inspired by Tappei Nagatsuki and illustrator Shinichirou Otsuka's light novel series of the same name. The novels center on Natsuki Subaru, a hikikomori (shut-in) who gets transported into a fantasy world. He is rescued by a silver-haired half-elf girl named Emilia, who carries a weight of destiny far greater than Subaru can imagine. He decides to protect her to return the favor, but soon gets into situations beyond what he can handle, and he and Emilia are killed. It is then that Subaru discovers that he has the power of "Return by Death," where he can rewind time by dying, but only he remembers what previously took place. His life in this new world soon intersects with other characters and the politics of the land.

Masaharu Watanabe (Wakaba Girl director, episode director for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) directed the anime at Studio White FOX. Masahiro Yokotani (Maria Holic, both seasons of Free!, SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist) handled the series composition, and Kyuta Sakai (Steins;Gate, Sankarea: Undying Love, Humanity Has Declined) designed the characters and served as chief animation director.
