Live-Action Kodoku no Gourmet TV Series Gets 6th Season

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
3rd TV special adapting culinary travel manga aired on Monday

The live-action "Todoku no Gourmet Oshōgatsu Special ~Inagashira Gorō no Nagai Ichinichi~" (Solitary Gourmet New Year's Special: Gorō Inagashira's Long First Day) special announced on Monday that the Kodoku no Gourmet television series will get a sixth season.

The live-action series inspired two previous television specials last year. The fifth season aired from October to December 2015. The live-action show's 10-episode first season premiered in January 2012. Yutaka Matsushige (live-action Death Note, Sukiyaki Western Django, Crows Zero) played protagonist Gorō in all five seasons.

Both the live-action series and the original manga follow a solitary salesman named Gorō Inagashira as he travels all over Japan and samples the local cuisine found on street corners.

Masayuki Kusumi and Jiro Taniguchi first serialized the Kodoku no Gourmet manga from 1994 to 1996 in Fusosha's Monthly Panja magazine (now defunct). Kusumi handled the story, and Taniguchi drew the art. Fusosha published the first collected volume in 1997. Kusumi and Fusosha published the manga's second volume in September 2015.

The manga has been translated in eight languages. The now-defunct online manga site JManga once licensed the manga for North America and published a part of it in English.
