Crossover game slated for digital release this summer

Bandai Namco Entertainment America began streaming a "New Years Showcase Announcement Trailer" on Thursday for its Accel World vs. Sword Art Online PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita game. The video features English subtitles.

Bandai Namco Entertainment America announced on Thursday that it will release the game in North America and in Europe this summer. The game will be digital-only on both systems and will have Japanese audio with English, Spanish, and French subtitles.

Bandai Namco Entertainment describes the game's story:

Svart Alfheim and the Accelerated World have begun to merge. In the midst of the chaos, Yui has gone missing. Kirito must challenge the Seven Kings of pure color from the Accelerated World to gain access to her location. Players from both groups come together in a war of the worlds where the strongest Burst Linkers and ALO Players are on a mission to save Yui from the hands of Personna Babel.

The game will ship in Japan on March 16. The game will include Sword Art Online characters Kirito, Asuna, Lisbeth, and Silica, and Accel World characters Kuroyukihime/Black Lotus, Silver Crow, Scarlet Rain, and Lime Bell. The voice actors from the anime adaptations of the the novels are reprising their roles for the above characters.

First-print copies of the game in Japan will include costumes from the upcoming Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale movie for Kirito and Asuna, as well as a download code that makes the Alfheim Online version of Sachi a playable character.

Both Accel World and Sword Art Online are light novel series written by Reki Kawahara. While Sword Art Online begins in 2022, Accel World takes place in 2046. Both light novel series have inspired various anime projects, manga adaptations and spinoffs, and video games.
