First Love Monster Manga Gets Novel

posted on by Karen Ressler
Original creator Hiyoshimaru to supervise new story

This year's March issue of Kodansha's Aria magazine announced on Saturday that Akira Hiyoshimaru's First Love Monster manga is inspiring a novel that will ship on March 2 in Japan. Hiyoshimaru will illustrate the novel and supervise the original story. Makoto Nohara is writing the novel. It will also include the story "Omae no Koto ga Suki Nan Da" by doujin boys-love author Baku Yumemakurasaki.

Hiyoshimaru launched First Love Monster in Kodansha's Aria magazine in March 2013, and Kodansha shipped the seventh compiled volume in July. A special edition of the eighth volume will bundle an original anime DVD on February 7.

Yen Press is publishing the manga in North America, and it describes the series.

When fifteen-year-old Kaho Nikaidou leaves her sheltered home to start life anew in a Tokyo high school dormitory, the last thing she expects is to nearly get hit by a truck! Saved in the nick of time by a handsome stranger, Kaho falls head over heels for him and, after finally tracking him down, boldly confesses her feelings. Turns out Kaho's mystery savior, Kanade, is the son of Kaho's new landlord! The handsome object of Kaho's affection agrees to go out with her, but her newfound bliss is short-lived when it turns out that her new boyfriend...is a fifth-grader?!

The manga inspired a television anime that premiered on July 2, and Funimation streamed the series with English subtitles, as well as with an English broadcast dub.
