Paramount's Live-Action Rings Film's 'Extended Plane,' 'Watch Me' Videos Streamed

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Film sequel to The Ring opens on Friday

Paramount Pictures began streaming "Extended Plane" and "Watch Me" promotional videos for its Rings live-action horror film on Tuesday. The film will open on Friday after several delays.

Paramount Pictures describes the story:

A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…

Rings is a sequel to The Ring and will take place 13 years later. F. Javier Gutiérrez is directing the film, and Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald (The Ring, The Ring Two) are producing. David Loucka, Jacob Aaron Estes, and Akiva Goldsman wrote the script. Alex Roe, Matilda Lutz, Aimeé Teegarden, Johnny Galecki, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D'Onofrio are starring in the film.

The first Hollywood film of The Ring premiered in 2002. Hideo Nakata, the director of the original 1998 Japanese Ringu, directed The Ring Two, a Hollywood sequel that debuted in 2005.

Sadako 3D 2, which premiered in Japan in August 2013, was the latest film in the Ring (Ringu) series in Japan. In the Japanese films, Sadako is the vengeful ghost of the daughter of a famous psychic. She is connected to a cursed video tape featuring a collection of disturbing images; those who watch the tape are killed one week later. Koji Suzuki, the author of the original novel series that inspired the franchise, wrote a new original story for that film.
