Katsugeki! Touken Ranbu TV Anime's Poster Reveals Yagen Tōshirō, Tonbokiri

A poster in Tokyo's JR Shinjuku Station revealed Yagen Tōshirō and Tonbokiri character visuals for Katsugeki! Tōken Ranbu (Action Picture! Touken Ranbu), ufotable's television anime of the Touken Ranbu -Online- game, on Monday. The poster will remain in the station until February 12. The series will premiere in July.
Toshiyuki Shirai (Fate/Zero, Tales of Zestiria the X animation director) is directing the series at ufotable. Hideyuki Fukasawa (Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works, Flowers of Evil) is composing the music.
DMM's Touken Ranbu "sword personification training game" takes famous swords from Japanese history and interprets them as bishōnen. Nitroplus designed the characters and scenario. The game launched in Japan last year, and it has more than 1.5 million registered users. The game has acquired a large female fanbase and inspired a wide range of merchandise, as well as several manga and stage productions.
A sequel of the separate Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru anime has been green-lit. Takashi Naoya (Luck & Logic co-director, Selector Infected Wixoss animation director) directed the first season at Doga Kobo. The anime premiered on TOKYO MX on October 2. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan, and Funimation is streaming an English dub.
