New Power Rangers Film Gets VR App on March 8

posted on by Rai Kelly
VR experience for iOS, Android, Oculus to be 2 minutes long

The official website for the upcoming Power Rangers film began streaming an announcement video on Friday to reveal that the film is getting a VR app titled Power Rangers: Zords Rising that will launch on March 8.

The app allows fans to explore the world of Power Rangers using virtual reality and full positional tracking. The VR experience is two minutes long. The app is powered by Qualcomm snapdragon and will be available for iOS, Android, and Oculus devices. The virtual world is aligned with the plot of the movie, which Liongates describes as:

Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

The new film will star:

  • Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger Jason
  • Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger Kimberly
  • Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger Zack
  • R.J. Cyler as the Blue Ranger Billy
  • Becky Gomez as the Yellow Ranger Trini

In addition to the main cast, Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston plays Zordon, Elizabeth Banks plays Rita Repulsa, David Denman plays Sam Scott (the father of the Red Ranger), and Bill Hader plays Alpha 5.

The movie premieres in North America on March 24, and in Japan on July 15.
