Chicago anime convention Anime Midwest announced on Wednesday that members of anime studio MAPPA, including producer and CEO Manabu Ohtsuka, will attend the convention as guests. Ohtsuka will attend a Q&A panel at the convention.
Former Madhouse producer Masao Maruyama founded MAPPA. The studio has been the main animation studio for such anime as Kids on the Slope, Terror in Resonance, Yuri!!! on Ice, Rage of Bahamut Genesis, Garo the Animation, DAYS, the first three seasons of the Teekyū anime, and In This Corner of the World. Maruyama stepped down as CEO in April 2016 and founded his new Studio M2 in the same year.
Ohtsuka began his career in the anime industry as producer in Studio 4°C, working on such titles as Genius Party and the "Have I Got a Story for You" of the Batman: Gotham Knight anthology collection. Maruyama invited Ohtsuka to work for MAPPA when Maruyama founded the studio in 2011, and Ohtsuka has since worked as an animation producer on many of the studio's titles, including Kids on the Slope, Teekyū, Terror in Resonance, Rage of Bahamut Genesis, and Garo the Animation. When Maruyama stepped down as CEO in April 2016, Ohtsuka took over as producer and CEO, and is credited as a producer for DAYS and Yuri!!! on Ice.
Anime Midwest will take place at the Hyatt Regency O'hare and Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois on July 7 to 9.
