Idea Factory's Hakuōki Shinkai Game Gets PS4 Port

A stage event at the Dengeki Game Festival 2017 event in Tokyo on Sunday revealed that Idea Factory's Otomate brand is developing the Hakuōki Shinkai: Fūkaden game for the PlayStation 4.

The game is a port of Idea Factory's Hakuōki Shinka PlayStation Vita games. The games are made up of Hakuōki Shinka: Kaze no Shō and Hakuōki Shinkai: Hana no Shō. The announcement didn't state if the PS4 version would include both games, or would just be a port of the Hakuōki Shinka: Kaze no Shō game (both Hakuōki Shinkai: Fūkaden and Hakuōki Shinka: Kaze no Shō have the same "kaze" kanji in their titles).

Hakuōki Shinka: Kaze no Shō shipped in Japan in September 2015. Hakuōki Shinkai: Hana no Shō shipped in June 2016. Both games remake the original Hakuōki Shinsengumi Kitan 2008 PlayStation 2 game, but each game tackles different parts of the story.

Idea Factory International will release Hakuōki Shinkai: Kaze no Shō in English under the title Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds on the PS Vita on May 16 in North America and May 19 in Europe.

The original PS2 game has been ported into the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo 3DS platforms. Aksys Games localized and released Hakuōki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom for the PSP in February 2012, Hakuōki: Memories of the Shinsengumi for the Nintendo 3DS in September 2013, and Hakuōki: Stories of the Shinsengumi for the PS3 in May 2014.

The story of the game and its anime adaptation center around the historical Shinsengumi samurai group in Kyoto during the 19th century.
