Sony Ships 60 Million PS4 Consoles Worldwide

Sony Corporation released its financial results on Friday for fiscal year 2016, which began on April 1, 2016 and ended on March 31, 2017. The report revealed that Sony shipped 20.0 million PlayStation 4 consoles during fiscal year 2016. The company has shipped a total of 60 million units worldwide since the console's launch.
The PlayStation 4 console first launched in the U.S. and Canada in November 2013 and in Japan in February 2014. Sony shipped 7.5 million PS4 units in fiscal year 2013, and 14.8 million units in fiscal year 2014. The new financial results report revealed that the PlayStation 4 shipped 17.7 consoles during fiscal year 2015. The combined total of consoles shipped worldwide between fiscal years 2013-2016 is 60 million.
Additionally, the company forecasts that it will ship 18 million PlayStation 4 consoles during fiscal year 2017, which began on April 1, 2017 and ends on March 31, 2018.
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced in January that it sold an estimated 6.20 million PlayStation 4 consoles worldwide during the holiday season, bringing the total number of consoles sold worldwide to an estimated 53.40 million units. The PlayStation 4 had sold 40 million units as of last May, and 50 million units as of December. The console is the fastest to reach the 50 million milestone of any console under the PlayStation brand.
