"Love comedy" ninja manga inspired anime in 1982

This year's June issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Hero's manga magazine announced on Monday that Fujihiko Hosono's Sasuga no Sarutobi manga will receive a revival beginning in this year's July issue on June 1. The new work's title is Sasuga no Sarutobi G, where the "G" stands for the "global" approach the manga will take.

Like the original love comedy manga, the new series will follow the chubby genius ninja Nikumaru and the beautiful female ninja Mako. The new story takes place in modern Japan at the "Way of the Ninja Academy," where Nikumaru and Mako represent Japan in a fierce battles to become "Ninja Master."

Hosono serialized the original Sasuga no Sarutobi manga from 1980 to 1984 in Shogakukan's Zōkan Shonen Sunday magazine. Shogakukan published the seventh and final compiled volume in July 1984. The series inspired a 69-episode television anime beginning in 1982.
