Man from Hyogo prefecture allegedly earned about 520,000 yen from 2014-2016

Fukuoka prefectural police arrested and charged an unemployed 67-year-old man in Minamiawaji City, Hyogo prefecture on Wednesday for allegedly selling a modified Nintendo Wii console and violating the Unfair Competition Prevention Law. According to the authorities, the man sold the modified console to "make money on the side."

According to the police, they first learned about the man from a tip in May last year, and observed that the man had supposedly sold at least three modified Wii units from May to November last year on internet auction sites. The police allege that the man had offered some 172 items, ranging in cost from 1,000 yen (about US$8) to 7,900 yen (about US$69), and earned about 520,000 yen (about US$4,555) from 2014 to 2016.

The suspect wrote in his deposition that he had looked up how to modify the console online and became good at it.
