Digimon Adventure tri. Anime Film Series Gets Stage Play Telling Side Story

"Adventure on August 1" side story premieres in Tokyo in August

Toei Animation opened a website on Friday to reveal that the Digimon Adventure tri. film series is getting a stage play project. The "super evolution" stage play, titled Digimon Adventure tri. ~8-gatsu Tsuitachi no Bōken~ (Digimon Adventure tri.: The Adventure on August 1), will run for 10 performances at the Zepp Blue Theater Roppongi in Tokyo from August 5-13.

Polygon Magic is producing the play. The play will tell a side story centered on the "eight DigiDestined" including Taichi Yagami. The website will reveal the main cast, visual, and ticket information for the play "soon."

The anime film series, which celebrates the 15th anniversary of Digimon Adventure (the first entry in the television anime series), will have a total of six films.

Digimon Adventure tri.- Chapter 1: Reunion opened in November 2015, Digimon Adventure tri.- Chapter 2: Determination opened in March 2016, Digimon Adventure tri.- Chapter 3: Confession opened on September 24, and Digimon Adventure tri.- Chapter 4: Loss opened in Japan on February 25. Crunchyroll began streaming all four films on the same day that they premiered in Japan.

The fifth film in the series, Digimon Adventure tri. Kyōsei (Union or Symbiosis), will open in Japan this year.

The first film received a theatrical release in the United States on September 15 with an English dub that features new and returning cast members. The dub screenings received an extended run in the U.S. starting on September 29.

Shout! Factory has licensed the first three films for home video. The first film will ship on May 16, and the second film will ship on August 15.
