Hisae Iwaoka's Koshoku Robot Manga Gets Live-Action Show

posted on by Anita Tai
Series based on cooking manga begins June 19

A live-action series based on Hisae Iwaoka's Koshoku Robot (Solitary Eating Robot) manga has been green-lit. The drama will begin on NTV's new Syndra block on June 19.

The drama will star Hey! Say! JUMP members Daiki Arioka, Yūya Takaki, and Hikaru Yaotome. Arioka will play the role of the innocent android, Takaki will play the role of the mischievous android, and Yaotome will play the role of the calm android. Arioka, Takaki and Yaotome are also performing the show's theme song as the sub-unit "A.Y.T." (Are you there?).

Other cast members include Mana Mikura as Nozomi Takagi, an office lady with poor cooking skills, Kanro Morita as Yutaka Yaguchi, a salaryman who is bad with communication, Kenji Anan as Akio Kobashi, a man whose wife left him, and Yōichi Nukumizu as Masuzawa, the manager of an izakaya (pub) called "Kakushi Bōchō" (light scoring cooking technique). (Note: Character name romanizations are not confirmed.)

The "heartwarming story" of the manga follows the interaction between dietary support robots and their owners. At the ○×Food Company chain store, a customer can exchange points for a 25-centimeter tall robot who will assist with their dietary needs.

Iwaoka (Saturn Apartments) launched the ongoing series in Shueisha's Jump X [Kai] magazine in 2013, but it moved to Shueisha's Cookie magazine when Jump X ceased publication. Shueisha published the fourth compiled volume on January 25.
