Bandai Namco Debuts Evangelion VR Experience This Summer

Bandai Namco Entertainment announced on Tuesday that it is developing a virtual-reality experience inspired by the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime. The experience, titled "Evangelion VR: The Tamashii no Za" (Evangelion VR: The Throne of Souls), will debut in Bandai Namco Entertainment's new VR Zone Shinjuku center this summer.

The project will be the first VR Eva-piloting experience. The VR machines will put players inside the Entry Plugs and cockpits of Evangelion units. In the experience, people will take on the role of a "temporary pilot" at NERV. Players will fight alongside two allies in Tokyo-3 to defeat Zeruel, the 10th angel. The cockpit machines will be able to move, vibrate, and ventilate to capture the experience of piloting an Eva unit. The VR experience will feature the Eva's familiar startup and launch sequence before moving into battle.

The VR Zone Shinjuku center will open on June 13.

The experience is part of Bandai Namco Entertainment's Project i Can, which ran a VR "experience center" at the Diver City Tokyo Plaza in Tokyo from April to October last year. The center offered a Gundam experience beginning on August 26. The project also debuted a Doraemon VR experience in Tokyo this past February.
