Indonesia's CGV Cinemas Celebrates 'Anime Week' By Screening 9 Anime Films

Indonesian cinema chain CGV Cinemas Indonesia announced on Thursday that it will launch a week-long event titled "CGV Anime Week," from Friday, May 19 to Thursday, May 25. During the event, CGV Cinemas Indonesia will screen the your name., Boruto: Naruto the Movie, Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare, One Piece Film Gold, Crayon Shin-chan Bakusui! Yumemi World Dai Totsugeki, Digimon Adventure tri., Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale, Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions, and Stand By Me Doraemon anime films. your name. began screening on Friday.

Makoto Shinkai's your name. film opened in Indonesia on December 7. The film opened in Japan last August, and has become the fourth highest-grossing film of all time in Japan, the second highest-grossing Japanese film, and the second highest-grossing anime film. Box Office Mojo estimated the film's current worldwide total at US$354,198,893 as of May 7.

Boruto: Naruto the Movie opened in Indonesia in November 2015. The film opened in Japan in August 2015, earning 680,134,700 yen (around US$5.46 million) in its first three days in the Japanese box-office, selling 516,146 tickets at 268 screens.

Original Naruto manga creator Masashi Kishimoto was credited with the original story, script, and character designs, as well as the chief production supervisor for the film. Hiroyuki Yamashita (Naruto Shippūden episode director, Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie animation director) directed the film, and Ukyō Kodachi (Chaos Dragon, Neppu Kairiku Bushi Road) collaborated with Kishimoto on the script.

Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare opened in Indonesia last July.

The film opened in Japan in April 2016, topping the Japanese box office in its opening weekend. The film sold 933,800 tickets on 348 screens, and earned 1.209 billion yen in its opening weekend. The film has set a new record high for the film franchise, having earned approximately 6.33 billion yen (about US$56 million).

The 2015 film Detective Conan: Gōka no Himawari (Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno) held the previous record, with 4.48 billion yen (about US$41.6 million) in box-office earnings.

The newest Detective Conan film, Meitantei Conan Kara Kurenai no Love Letter (Detective Conan: The Crimson Love Letter) opened in Japan on April 15, and will open in Indonesia on June 7.

One Piece Film Gold opened in Indonesia last September. The film opened in Japan last July on 743 screens, which is the largest for any Japanese film. The film earned 1,155,771,000 yen (about US$10.87 million) and ranked #1 in its opening weekend, selling 820,830 tickets.

Original manga creator Eiichiro Oda served as the film's executive producer as well as being credited with the original work. Hiroaki Miyamoto (One Piece episodes 352-679, assistant director for One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island) directed the film, and Tsutomu Kuroiwa (live-action Black Butler film, live-action Liar Game: The Final Stage film, live-action The Perfect Insider TV series) wrote the script. Masayuki Sato designed the characters for animation, and also served as chief animation director. Kazuo Ogura was the art director, while Nobuhito Sue was credited for art setting.

Eiga Crayon Shin-chan Bakusui! Yumemi World Dai Totsugeki (Crayon Shin-chan: Fast Asleep! Dreaming World Big Assault!), the 24th film in the Crayon Shin-chan franchise, opened in Indonesia last October. The film opened in Japan last April.

The film ranked #2 in the Japanese box office in its opening weekend, topped by Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare. Wataru Takahashi (Crayon Shin-chan films 17-23) returned to direct the new film, and comedian Hitori Gekidan (actor in Train Man, Fusé: Memoirs of a Huntress) wrote the film's script along with Takahashi. Voice actors Akiko Yajima (Shin-chan), Miki Narahashi (Misae Nohara), Keiji Fujiwara (Hiroshi Nohara), and Satomi Koorogi (Himawari) returned to voice characters in the film.

Digimon Adventure tri. Saikai, the first of six planned films in the Digimon Adventure tri. anime film series, opened in Indonesia last August. The film opened in Japan in November 2015.

The Digimon Adventure tri. project celebrates the 15th anniversary of the Digimon Adventure anime. While the anime's human characters have a completely different Japanese voice cast from the original Digimon Adventure, the Digimon partners feature the same Japanese cast.

The second film, Digimon Adventure tri. Ketsui, opened in Japan in March 2015. The third film, Digimon Adventure tri. Kokuhaku, opened in Japan last September. The fourth film, Digimon Adventure tri. Sōshitsu, opened in Japan on February 25.

Indonesian television channel Indosiar aired the Digimon Adventure anime in 2001, and has aired all subsequent Digimon series in the country.

Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale opened for a one-day screening in Indonesia on February 25, seven days after the film's February 18 opening in Japan and similar one-day screenings as other Southeast Asian territories. The film was originally scheduled to screen in Indonesia on February 18, but was delayed due to technical issues. The film had its wide opening on March 22, and a one-day fan screening on April 22.

The film sold about 308,376 tickets for 425,762,760 yen (about US$3.76 million) in its opening weekend. The film was the first anime film to rank #1 in both weekend attendance and weekend box office receipt totals since Makoto Shinkai's your name. The film also set the opening-weekend record among films distributed by Aniplex.

The film had earned 2.3 billion yen in Japan as of April 6.

Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions opened in Indonesia in November. The film opened in Japan in April 2016 on 137 screens, ranking #6 and selling 92,396 tickets, earning 133,010,600 yen (about US$1.2 million) in its first weekend. The film eventually earned over 800 million yen (about US$7.5 million).

The film received 4DX and MX4D screenings in Japan beginning on September 24.

Satoshi Kuwabara (Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal, Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal II) directed the film.

Stand By Me Doraemon opened in Indonesia in December 2015. The film premiered in Japan in August 2015, ranking #1 at the Japanese box office on its opening weekend, and earned 9,184,183,031 yen (US$77,933,763) by its 15th weekend.

49-year-old Takashi Yamazaki (Returner, Always - Sunset on Third Street, Ballad, Space Battleship Yamato) and 48-year-old Ryûichi Yagi (Pénélope tête en l'air line director, Moyashimon 3D CG director) helmed Stand By Me Doraemon after collaborating on Japan's first feature-length 3D CG anime film, Friends: Mononoke Shima no Naki. Yamazaki also wrote the screenplay.

Publisher Elex Media Komputindo began publishing the Doraemon manga in Indonesia in 1992, and the RCTI channel began airing the Doraemon TV anime series in the country in the same year. The channel continues to air the TV anime every Sunday at 8:00 a.m.
