Phoenix Comicon Staff Ban Prop Weapons Following Man's Arrest

Power Rangers actor Jason David Frank releases statement after armed suspect allegedly enters con with intent to kill him

Arizona convention Phoenix Comicon announced on Thursday that it has banned all prop weapons for the duration of the convention "as a result of recent events." The announcement contains a detailed list of the kinds of prop weapons banned and the props still allowed. The event is also implementing extra security and enhanced screening techniques such as magnetic wand and backpack checks.

The convention is offering refunds to convention attendees if they are affected by the "last minute changes."

The ban comes after the Phoenix Police Department arrested a man who allegedly brought firearms into the convention on Thursday. According to police, 31-year-old Matthew Sterling called himself "The Punisher" and threatened to kill police officers and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers actor Jason David Frank. Frank released a statement regarding the incident on Friday, stating he doesn't "know the person who was arrested."

Police stated that when Sterling was arrested, he was carrying three loaded handguns, a loaded shotgun, a combat knife, pepper spray, and throwing stars.

Phoenix Comicon started on Thursday, and runs at the Phoenix Convention Center until Sunday.
