Anime based on Eto Mori's novel debuts on July 6

The official website for the television anime of Eto Mori's youth novel series DIVE!! revealed on Thursday that solo vocalist Yūta Hashimoto will perform the ending theme song "New World." A new television commercial previewing the song is premiering on Fuji TV's Noitamina programming block on Thursday.

The 22-year-old singer from Sendai, Miyagi debuted in 2010. Hashimoto is known for his "melty voice." The unsigned soloist's cover videos have been viewed on social media more than 50 million times. Hashimoto released his first mini album, titled "Toroke Uta" (Melty Song), on January 15.

Both Hashimoto and Qyoto, the band who is performing the opening theme song "Taiyō mo Hitoribocchi" (The Sun Is Also Lonely), will perform at the anime's second pre-broadcast cast event on June 25.

The anime's cast includes:

Yūki Kaji as Tomoki Sakai, a young diver with hidden talents

Takahiro Sakurai as Yōichi Fujitani, the child of two former divers and three-time middle-school champion

Yūichi Nakamura as Shibuki Okitsu, a lone wolf who has been diving in the sea near Tugaru in northern Japan

Kaori Nazuka as Kayoko Asaki, the coach who changes their fates

Ryota Ohsaka as Ryō Ōhira, who sets the mood of the team

Kōki Uchiyama as Reiji Maruyama, the cool-headed analytical member

Tomokazu Sugita as Atsuhiko Yamada, nicknamed "Pinkie" and known for his tricky dives

Yūsuke Kobayashi as Sachiya Yoshida, an elementary school student

Kenshō Ono as Kiyotaka Matsuno

Shōta Aoi as Toshihiko Tsuji

Kengo Kawanishi as Jirō Hirayama

Ryōhei Kimura as Hiroya Sakai

The anime will premiere on July 6 at 12:55 a.m. (effectively July 7 morning) on Fuji TV's Noitamina block, and will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in Japan and other countries. The first episode will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on July 5 at 12:00 a.m. (effectively July 6 morning), ahead of the TV airing, but every episode thereafter will begin streaming at 3:00 a.m. in the morning after the Noitamina airing.

Mori (Colorful original creator, screenplay for Black Jack OAV, Black Jack The Movie) wrote the original four-volume novel series between 2000 and 2002. The series revolves around the Mizuki Diving Club (MDC), which is on the verge of closing down after having financial troubles. The club's new coach persuades the club's parent company to stay open on one condition: that the club sends one of its members to next year's Olympics as part of Japan's Olympic team.

Kaoru Suzuki (Pupipō!, episode director for Hellsing TV, Battery the Animation, Inuyasha) is directing the series at ZERO-G, and Touko Machida (Lucky Star, Endride, Wake Up, Girls!) is overseeing the scripts. Suzuhito Yasuda (Yozakura Quartet manga creator, character designer for Durarara!!, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?) is handling the original character design, and Miyako Yatsu (Eyeshield 21: The Phantom Golden Bowl, Idaten Jump) is adapting the character designs for animation, and is also credited as the chief animation director. Yuuki Hayashi (Kiznaiver, My Hero Academia, Welcome to the Ballroom) is composing the music.

The anime is inspiring the "DIVE!! VR Lesson~Tomoki-hen" VR experience in July. Mori's novel series previously inspired a live-action film adaptation in 2008. Masahiro Ikeno also drew a five-volume manga adaptation in 2007-2008.
