Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade Game's Video Previews New Lunar Subterrane Stage

Final Fantasy IV stage debuts on July 12

Square Enix announced with a video on Monday that it will add Lunar Subterrane from Final Fantasy IV as a new stage in its Dissidia Final Fantasy arcade game. The new stage will launch with an update on July 12.

Square Enix released the arcade version of Dissidia Final Fantasy fighting game in Japan in 2015. The game added Final Fantasy V's Exdeath as a playable character in May, and Square Enix confirmed that the game will continue to receive updates.

Previous updates added Final Fantasy Tactics' Ramza Beoulve, Final Fantasy's Garland, Final Fantasy IV's Kain Highwind, Final Fantasy VI antagonist Kefka Palazzo, Final Fantasy Type-0's Ace, Final Fantasy VII's Sephiroth, and Final Fantasy IX's Kuja as playable characters.

In addition to a three-versus-three battle system, the game includes a summons gauge that players can use to summon Ifrit and other popular Final Fantasy summons when the gauge is full. Koei Tecmo Games' Team Ninja (Dead or Alive series) developed the game, which uses technology from a PlayStation 4 core system instead of a dedicated arcade circuit board.

Square Enix will release the Dissidia Final Fantasy NT game for PlayStation 4 worldwide in early 2018. The "NT" in the title stand for various things such as “New Tale,” “New Trial,” and “New Tournament.” The game will not have a story mode, but it will feature story not in the game's arcade version. The game will feature three-versus-three battles and the series' “bravery combat system.” Arcade and PS4 players will not be able to fight with each other, but the staff is investigating allowing arcade players to carry over data. The game had a playable demo at E3 in Los Angeles from June 13 to June 15.

Retailer Amazon is also listing the game for US$59.99. According to the listing, players will be able to battle with 20 Final Fantasy characters, including Final Fantasy XV's Noctis. Kazushige Nojima (Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts) is writing an all-new Final Fantasy story.

Square Enix released Dissidia Final Fantasy, a PlayStation Portable fighting game featuring Final Fantasy heroes and villains, in 2008 in Japan, and in 2009 in other parts of the world. The company then released the Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy sequel in 2011 for the PSP with new characters, stages, and story.
